PU foams are a result of the reaction that occurs between a polyol and an isocyanate prepolymer. A blowing agent and a catalyst (in the form of amine) are also included in the reaction. In this case, the isocyanate acts as a diisocyanate. For instance, you can use toluene diisocyanate or methylene diphenyl diisocyanate.

A Batch Foaming Machine is used to let this reaction happen so that it can form high-strength and highly flexible blocks of foam with a single block at a time. Fortunately, these machines are quite affordable even though they provide low quantities.

How does a Batch Foam Machine help?

In most cases, Batch Foaming Machines are considered by the industry to be one of the most commercially economical and convenient ways to produce PU foam.

What are the Requirements for a Batch Foaming Machine?

First things first, you will need capital which includes an area, even if small, where you can keep the machine and raw material so that you can produce foam as per the market requirements. You will also need any extra tools required in the construction of polyurethane foam.

Which Batch Foaming Machine is Good?

Get the batch foam machine that has high reviews as that can decide if the machine is worth an investment or not. You can also look for specific features like foam mold stabilization and how fast it mixes the chemical components.  If you find foaming machines that are designed to yield more, check if the quality is delivered as expected.

Benefits of Getting a Batch Foam Machines

Still wondering why a batch foam machine is beneficial? Here are some benefits you will gain from it:

  • Even though it is for low quantity, it can deliver foam density up to 50 kg./cubic meter.
  • It comes with a motor for controlled mixing for uniform composition.
  • Handles chemical reactions with an advanced system that works fast.
  • Better quality with features like T.D.I feeding system and automatic polyol.

What is the Process of Manufacturing Foam in a Batch Foaming Machines?

Here is a short and simple process to produce PU foam through Batch Foaming Machines:

STEP 1:

Weigh chemicals required and keep those ready to process.

STEP 2:

Pour polyol and amines into the vessel and push the mixing button to start the process.

STEP 3:

Pour water and TDI as the components get mixed and increase the speed. The chemicals are mixed uniformly and a mold is released thereafter.

STEP 4:

The chemical reaction will form the PU foam and to begin the reaction in an organized manner, add to the mold the mixing chemical formation. Additionally, add the polyol combined with calcium carbonate. Now, stir the mixture at a speed of 500 R.P.M.

STEP: 5

Add the catalyst to the mixture. You can use silicon, methylene chloride, stannous octane, or amine.

STEP 6:

The final step is to add Toluene diisocyanate to the chemical reaction. Watch for a few seconds as it takes the shape of a mold and within a few seconds, your block of foam is ready. Keep it aside to let the foam block dry and once done, you can trim this foam in a vertical or horizontal foam cutting machine to get your market-ready PU foam.
